BETA-GLUCAN

A high cholesterol level is a risk factor for coronary heart disease* – a disease of the coronary arteries in most cases caused by arteriosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries). Almost one third of Swiss adults over the age of 25 have increased cholesterol levels in their blood, while with the over-55s it is every second person. This information comes from the current facts and figures brochure 2012 published by the Swiss heart foundation, Schweizerische Herzstiftung.

Beta-glucan from barley

Beta-glucans are soluble roughage (dietary fiber) and occur naturally in barley. Consumption of beta-glucan is proven to reduce blood cholesterol levels in a natural way. Betabarley contains up to 12 times more beta-glucans as wheat and rye, and approximately 50 percent more than oats. In addition, betabarley has very good baking properties. The barley loaves are very tasty, made ??to keep fed and stay fresh for several days.

* Heart disease is caused by a variety of risk factors. A raised cholesterol level is one of the risk factors for coronary heart disease. Reducing your cholesterol level with beta-glucan from barley – as part of a varied and balanced diet – can help to reduce the risk of heart disease.
